Roland Garros to Receive $400mil Revamp

The Stade Roland Garros, home of the French Open – Roland Garros, is about to receive a long awaited revamp. Planned works include:

  • The Philippe-Chatrier court receiving a retractable roof, which will be able to close in as little as 15 minutes so that play may continue on rainy days. There will also be an 18,000 sq ft addition in player facilities.
  • About 2.5 hectares of surface area will be added so that spectators can “relax and stroll” while in the area for the tournament.
  • There will also be a 5,000 seat semi-sunken court built in the Jardin des Serres d’Auteuil botanical garden which will be surrounded by greenhouses and lush vegetation.

The project is set to be completed by 2020.
