Stephanie Devaux-Lovell nominated for Sportswoman of the Year

Sporte Avis continues profiling the Nominees for the 37th Annual National Sports Awards. Next up is the SPORTSWOMAN OF THE YEAR award, and the first nominee is Stephanie Devaux-Lovell.

Her name wasn’t widely known prior to the Rio Olympics, but her journey to the games made her one of the most talked about names in St Lucian sports last year.

She has been performing admirably on the sailing circuit over the past 2 years, and her hard work finally paid off in June when her qualification to Rio was confirmed. The St.Lucian athlete has been chosen by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as one of four sailing Tripartite places, places that are open to enable smaller, less represented countries to participate in the Olympic Games.

She gave a fantastic account of herself at the Olympics, finishing in 29th place.

Her highlights during the 10 race event were a 25th place finish in Race 7 and a spectacular 3rd place finish in Race 8, in a time of 53:13, just 0:36 off the lead.

Back in June, she grabbed a 26th place finish at the Sailing World Cup Weymouth & Portland, in Great Britain.

She headed off to the University of Toronto after the games, but she remains competitive in the sport, recently excelling at the  Bayleys Laser National Championship in New Zealand.

Sporte Avis congratulates Stephanie on her nomination and wishes her the very best!
